  • Description: The Brandens (husband and wife at the time) were close associates of Rand when they wrote this book. It was the first book by anyone other than Rand to discuss her ideas. After Rand broke with the Brandens in 1968, they both partially repudiated their own book, saying it was too uncritical of Rand. Nathaniel Branden wrote the first three essays analyzing Rand's novels, while Barbara Branden wrote the biographical essay. This title essay was the only "authorized" biography of Rand during her lifetime.
