  • Description: This was the first full-length biography of Rand ever published, and to date it is the most comprehensive biographical study of Rand available. Branden was a personal friend of Rand from 1950 to 1968, and wrote the authorized biographical essay in Who Is Ayn Rand?. Taped interviews that she did for that book were part of the source material for this one. Rand broke publicly with Branden (and her husband, Nathaniel Branden) in 1968. Branden has been accused of bias due to her personal history with Rand, and of mistaking or misrepresenting information in her biography. A tv movie drama was made by Showtime based on Branden's book in 1999.
